The same rules apply to similar technologies such as local storage, pixels and device fingerprinting — the law cares about storing or reading information on your device, not about the specific technique.

Our homepage includes a map embedded from Google Maps so visitors can find the business. It is useful, and it has a cost worth stating plainly: when the homepage loads, your browser requests that map from Google's servers. Google therefore receives your IP address, along with technical information about your browser, and may set its own cookies on your device.
That processing is carried out by Google rather than by us, and is governed by Google's own privacy policy. We have no access to whatever Google collects through it.
If you would rather it did not load, most browsers allow you to block third-party content, and privacy extensions do the same. Every other page on this site works without contacting Google at all, and the homepage functions perfectly well with the map blocked.
Worth mentioning because it is a common exception elsewhere. Many websites that set no cookies still hand every visitor's IP address to Google on every page load through their font files alone, without ever saying so. This one does not — the typefaces are served from this domain.
Cookie banners exist because the law requires consent before non-essential cookies are set. This site sets none of its own, so a banner from us would be asking permission for nothing.
